My new light-based sculptures address global industrialism and commerce and their impact on the natural world. Investigating the artistic possibilities of industrial shrink wrap, Styrofoam, cardboard packaging, colored LED lights, black lights and video, I contrast these human-made materials with twigs, tree branches, string, stones and other found or ready-made materials to construct armatures that are wrapped and constricted with the sinuous polyethylene. In doing so, voids and volumes of space are created with materials that are typically used for a variety of industries, including construction, healthcare and food. Shown in a dimmed gallery space, colored light is reflected within the artworks with apertures to peer into the interior of these glowing structures and volumes of light. As always, in all my artworks and exhibitions, I also continue to examine the slippery nature of reality.
